Advanced Online Synchronous Pedagogies and AI-Powered Webcam
Amy Kuntz
Hear of faculty uses cases from a variety of disciplines of how an AI-powered webcam and advanced pedagogies for online synchronous and hybrid courses were implemented. The focus will be sharing the creation process of instructional lessons, the instructor experiences as part of implementation, feedback of the student experience, and quickly discussing the affordances and constraints of implementing a cutting-edge AI-powered webcam technology for even more exploration into a variety of courses.

Open the Classroom Doors, HAL: Meeting the Future with Open Pedagogy
Mark Hussey & Kae Novak
The emergence of AI is quickly rendering many educational resources – and possible entire career tracks – obsolete. Yet, educators have to engage with these new technologies and craft curriculums that will prepare students for the future. Open pedagogy offers a promising approach. It enables students to become (literally) collaborative authors of their own courses. It uses reflective collaboration with AI technology. It may even help your students learn in more advanced ways than we previously thought possible.

AI Tools for Quality Course Design: Improving the Student Learning Experience
Karen LaPlant & Zala Fashant
Faculty and instructional designers are recognizing the strategies AI applications can deliver significant learning to courses. In this session we examine how AI tools can be used in course design, enhance assessments and learning activities, and ways to save time so they can focus their time on teaching students. The focus is to provide practical ideas where the AI is used for quality achievement, using artificial intelligence to develop and expand human intelligence. Participants will consider the latest pedagogical best practices that will increase student learning and skill development needed for their careers and will have the opportunity to share their own practices during the session.

GPT-4 and the Problem of Literary Interpretation
Jessica George
In Spring 2023, GPT-3 and GPT-4 received their scores in AP English Literature and Composition. Both scored two out of a possible five. While both models are decent at writing and editing both fiction and non-fiction works, literary analysis remains a hurdle for LLMs. In particular, LLMs struggle with “the nature of proof” (Perrine, 1962) in literary analysis. This discussion-based session will review enduring disciplinary debates about literary interpretation and their connection to today's conversations about LLMs and the problem of literary interpretation. Significant time will be apportioned to participant discussion.
